Salespersons who are not doing well do not have a clue as to why not.

  • If they don’t make enough calls on Monday they may blame it on the fact that they stayed up too late Sunday night and got off to a slow start.
  • When they don’t make enough calls on Tuesday they may blame it on having a fight with the spouse that morning and just could not get their minds on selling for the rest of the day.
  • On Wednesday the excuse is they had to put the car in the shop and on Thursday had to take a sick child to the doctor.
  • By Friday they don’t have an appointment, haven’t made a sale—so shucks, I’ll just wait till Monday.


They would never, ever think, “Oh, I’ve got an unconscious personality trait, an old belief or attitude that is causing me to sabotage myself.”


There are solid reasons why the Sales Industry stands by their statistics that 80% of the salespersons sell only 20% of the goods and services, always have and probably always will. Nobody has a clue as to why that is, even when the sales training classes become more and more sophisticated.
